Tamasia Johnson, Founding & Executive Director
Tamasia Johnson is a New York City native who is passionate about the success of young people. Tamasia is currently the Head of College Counseling for Democracy Prep Public Schools. On weekends, Tamasia is the College Access Instructor for SEO Scholars and the Academic and Enrichment Teacher for the NYC Department of Education. If she is not finding ways to give back, she is traveling, meal planning or finding ways to make sure she has healthy hair and a financially stable future.
Tamasia possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with concentrations in Marketing and Human Resource Management and a certificate in Nonprofit Management. She also holds a masters degree in Education Research and Program Evaluation, focusing on college graduation rates and how we can improve them.
Tamasia is a member of the College Access Consortium of New York (CACNY) and the New York State Association for College Admissions Counseling (NYSACAC).
She is the recipient of the Walker’s Legacy Power Mentor Award, Mayor Luke Ravenstahl's Citizen Service Award, a 2015 Pittsburgh Legacy Leader and the 2015 Strong Award Honoree presented by Strong Women, Strong Girls, Tamasia has dedicated herself to the empowerment and success of young people.

Sharnez Givens, Program Manager
Sharnez Givens is an educator in a public high school in St. Louis, MO. She hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is a product of Pittsburgh Public Schools. As an alumna of Pittsburgh Public Schools, she understands the need for character development and college readiness in the public school setting.
Sharnez currently works in a diverse low income school. Even though the environment is not ideal to most, she is determined to create lasting relationships with her students. She believes that by building strong relationships, students are more likely to pursue higher education. These relationships foster a bond that the students cherish and promotes positive thinking. This positive thinking supports them when they need it most throughout their journey in life. Sharnez believes the development of positive relationships is a major key in a student success, cultivating her passion and devotion to The Pearl Club's mission.
Sharnez holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a concentration in Secondary English from Harris Stowe State University in St. Louis, MO. She also holds a Master of Arts degree in Education from Lindenwood University which is also located in St. Louis, MO. Sharnez holds a teaching certification in both secondary English and as a Reading Specialist.
